  44.     Select Float converts a normal selection to a Floating Selection.

  47.     Floating selections were used in the first ages of GIMP to perform 
  48.     operations on a limited part of the image. Nowadays, you can do that 
  49.     more easily with layers. This option is persisting. More, a float is 
  50.     automatically created when you move a selection using the move 
  51.     tool without pressing the ALT key (or Shift Alt in Linux). 
  52.     A temporay layer is created in the Layer Dialog. Its name is 
  53.     'Floating Selection'. 
  54.     No more operations can be performed on another layer until the float 
  55.     has been anchored.
